My Denim Guide

I feel like even after writing this post, my journey with denim will still be "in development". I love denim but I don't necessarily like how it feels on days when I'm on my period (yes, we're being upfront here) or when I'm on a long road trip. This guide isn't going to tell you that I've found the most comfortable pair of jeans, but it will tell you I've found a few kickass pairs of jeans that have helped me and my- 5"4' self feel like a queen. 

My Denim Standards

If I'm going to wear a pair of denim, here's what I'm looking for:

  • Length: Not too long and not too short. Which, is a struggle because even "regular" length jeans are too long on me. And, finding a petite size 18 pair of denim is a struggle. As a result, 99% of the time, I know I'll cuff it. 
  • Style: I'm #TeamSkinnyJeans so, I like my jeans tight. I have found that they are the most flattering for my body type and height and they make me feel best. If a pair of skinny jeans is loose around my knees, I won't be too happy about it. I like the consistency of a tight fit from my thighs to my ankles.
  • Longevity: I don't want a pair of jeans that I wear to die on me 3 months into their usage. For me, a really good pair of jeans should last about a year. *NOTE: When it comes to washing denim, I wash my jeans once a month and I don't put them in the dryer. I find that this cleaning technique is what helps my jeans last longer and keep their shape.*

I've been on a long and emotional journey with denim and as of Oct 2017, these are the jeans that have played a pivotal role in my style life (in no particular order).

*I'll say it again: I love, love, LOVE a solid pair of black denim. These have become my new favorite pair for dressing up or down.*

Old Navy Mid-Rise Raw Edge Distressed Jean

*If you're looking for a pair of black ripped denim, these are it. I patched some of the higher rips for comfort/modesty so they may look a little different on me than in the product photo*

Old Navy Rockstar Dark Wash

*I'm heartbroken that this color isn't available on the Old Navy website any more, I bought it Fall 2016. But, I wanted to include it in this guide because if it ever does come back in stock, I want to share it with you guys. I love the fit and wash and quality.*
